Alyn and Moko meet

Hikari-Hellion: After the last couple days of getting familiar with Engineering and the people under her command, and making sure everything's ready for when they set out, Alyn's decided that she needs a break for her sanity...either that or the fact that she's stopped counting how many cups of coffee she's had today, or isn't sure how much sleep she got last night. So she's heading for the mess hall to get something for lunch, rather than subsisting on coffee.

Toastbusters: Doctor Jn'kuk sat alone in the empty mess hall with a small meal in front of him. Whatever he had decided to eat, it was still moving and probably was an insect once. He gave the Chief Engineer a brief glance upwards as she walked in. Great, more Cardassians... "Good evening, if it can be called that." He sounded very much like he did not care very much about the evening.

Hikari-Hellion: Alyn blinked when the man addressed her. "Fair enough, I'd guess." She said, heading to the replicator. She punched in a code for a seafood stir-fry, then turned to the one addressing her. "I don't believe we've met."

Toastbusters: "We have not." He sounded like he'd much rather /not/ have this conversation, but, oh well... "I am Doctor Jn'kuk. I am the Chief Medical Officer aboard the Demeter. I assume you're an engineer?" He can only guess by the clothes...

Hikari-Hellion: Alyn nodded, taking her meal from the replicator and approaching the doctor. "Leiutenant Commander, Yarayn, chief engineer." She replied. "I've been spending most of my time down in engineering, making sure that everything's going to be running smoothly when we head out."

ToastBusters: As he expected, it's the CHENG. "I figured as much." He lowers his eyes to his food and moves the plate over to give Alyn some room. "I've come aboard to see to it that sickbay is in top condition. I suppose, as chief engineer, you'd be able to help me with a few tasks?"

Hikari-Hellion: Alyn nodded and took the seat. "Such as?"

ToastBusters: "I've found a few of my lights and equipment don't work, or, if they do work, they only work intermittently. I believe it is a power issue." He spoke as if he were a professor teaching some sort of ultra-dull topic...

Hikari-Hellion: [You'd think that on a ship preparing to head to another galaxy, Sickbay would be in full working order.] Alyn thought, not letting the annoyance show on her face. "I can send someone to look at it, shouldn't be a problem."

ToastBusters: "Thank you." Still cold as ever, he continued on with his meal. It's not that he didn't like Alyn, it's that he had more pressing issues on his mind.

Hikari-Hellion: Alyn took a drink of her coffee, studying the RTT. After a few moments, she decided to try and figure out what was eating at him. "Is something wrong, Doctor?"

Toastbusters: "Does it seem like something is wrong?" He raised his eyebrow at Alyn, which was the only hint of emotion he has shown at all throughout this conversation.

Hikari-Hellion: Alyn cocked her head slightly. "It just seems like you're...preoccupied."

ToastBusters: "I am." He frowned. "I'm in the middle of eating, Commander Yarayn." Which was very true.

Hikari-Hellion: "I can see that." Alyn said, letting a small, good-humored smile quirk up the side of her mouth. "And call me Alyn; it eliminates a bit of confusion."

ToastBusters: "Commander Alyn." He corrected himself, back to his food. He gave off the impression that he was annoyed, mostly because of the distinct way his tail swished about.

Hikari-Hellion: The swishing tail wasn't missed by Alyn. She swallowed the bit of shrimp she'd had in her mouth before speaking. "You seem preoccupied by more than just your dinner." She prompted.

ToastBusters: He raised his eyebrow and kept direct eye contact with her as he tucked his tail under his coat. "Perhaps."

Hikari-Hellion: "Care to talk about it?"

ToastBusters: "No." He'd rather not have to say 'I'm preoccupied with thinking about you leaving me alone', and to a relative of the first officer nonetheless.

Hikari-Hellion: Alyn nodded and went back to her dinner, taking several bites before continuing. "Is it just me or did you skip your morning coffee today?"

ToastBusters: "I don't drink coffee." He continued to eat his weird bug-food stuff.

Hikari-Hellion: Alyn resisted the urge to let out a sigh. "Well, something's got your panties in a bunch."

ToastBusters: He raised an eyebrow, and finished his meal. Without saying anything, he stood up and turned to put the plate in the recycler so he can leave.

Hikari-Hellion: Alyn returned the raised eyebrow...or in her case, brow ridge. She peered at him over her coffee cup. "You know, we'll need to deal with each other sooner or later, with both of us being on the senior staff."

ToastBusters: "It would be nice if I were treated with an ounce of respect." [But, I know how you Cardassians are.] He turned his head and continued to leave, his tail escaped his coat and swished angrily.

Hikari-Hellion: Alyn frowned as the CMO left. [Note to self; work on the social skills.] She thought, running a hand through her hair. [Nice first impression there, Al. Your skills at diplomacy are still top notch.] She let out an exasperated breath as she finished her meal, then returned her plate to the recycler and headed back down to Engineering. Her first meeting with another member of the senior staff (apart from her brother, still getting used to that), and she was pretty sure she'd made him mad.

ToastBusters: Since Alyn was much taller than Moko, she managed to catch up to him relatively quickly. He was headed towards sickbay, of course, but they'd be in the same hall for a little while--at least until someone reached the turbolift. He tried his best to ignore her.

Hikari-Hellion: Alyn took a breath and let out a quiet sigh. "Since we're going to be working on the same ship, as members of the senior staff, I do want to be able to get along with you at least on a tolerable level." She said.

ToastBusters: "That's an admirable goal, Commander, how do you intend on reaching it?" It sounded very much like the doctor didn't think Alyn was going to reach this goal.

Hikari-Hellion: "By talking, for one." She replied.

ToastBusters: "If I'm not mistaken, that is what got you into this mess." He still power walked down that hall.

Hikari-Hellion: Alyn sighed. This was not going well. At all. [I'm getting the feeling he really doesn't like Cardassians.] She thought. "/Civilly/." She said. "We'll have to deal with each other eventually."

ToastBusters: "Of course we will deal with each other. Respectfully and professionally. Are you able to do that?" As a doctor, he knew that Cardassians are not physically incapable of being polite, but he hasn't met very many that actually were polite...

Hikari-Hellion: Alyn nodded. "Yes." [Except for the fact that I'm about as blunt as a falling boulder.]

ToastBusters: "Then we shall see how our professional relationship develops." He hoped that they wouldn't develop beyond that, too...

Hikari-Hellion: Alyn nodded as they reached a turbolift. "I'll send someone up to take a look at those lights in Sickbay." She said.

ToastBusters: "That would be appreciated, thank you." He nodded, and stepped in after her. He had to get to sickbay somehow, after all.

Hikari-Hellion: "Not a problem." She said. She put in the deck number Sickbay was on, then for Engineering. After all, Sickbay was closer.

ToastBusters: He remained silent the whole way there. When the turbolift opened for sickbay, he left without another word, but he looked less angry if his tail was anything to go by.

Hikari-Hellion: Alyn watched as the CMO left, and the turbolift doors closed. She shook her head, slightly. [That could've gone better...at least it wasn't a complete disaster.] She thought as the turbolift continued down to Engineering. Once there, she kept to her word and got someone sent up to look at the fritzing lights in Sickbay.
